Adopt - A - Stream Outings

First Time Out...Fall 2007

It was a cool Saturday morning when the The Creek People gathered at Charlie's house. Everyone grabbed a reaching stick and donned their gear then spread out along the stream. Some headed toward Shadyview and others toward Farmbrook.

Several hours later they all met back at Charlies again (Charles Mock, who headed up and instigated this adventure) to report in , play show and tell about their discoveries. Carol Horton got "best of show" with her 1853 ''stone''. Now that's another story........

Second Time Around ..Spring 2008

Another crisp and sunny day ...but things are different this time. What? There's water in the stream. Wow, the draught seems to be over. This time someone brought hot coffee and donuts. Yeah!

Adopt-A-Stream

Now onto a serious note…
Those participating in the Creek Clean Up volunteered to be part of Charlotte-Mecklenburgs Adopt-A-Stream Program.

Many watersheds in our communities are polluted. Contributing to this pollution is illegal dumping by companies but also by citizens who pour grease, blow leaves and other unpleasant items down the stormwater drains. Believe it or not... this ends up in the same streams that become our drinking water. Yuk! So please, keep the drains for rainwater only.

If you’d like to participate in one of our stream clean-ups, please e-mail Charles at the address below. You can also usually catch him at one of our monthly meetings.

Twice a year is all it takes to get a sign stating this stream is maintained by The Montclaire Neighborhood Association. It's up on Farmbrook now. Thanks to everyone who participated for all your hard work.
