Algonquin Acres - Arapahoe Road Frontage Road Fence
Facts Regarding the Frontage Road Fence
This fence is not part of our neighborhood association. This fence is owned, built and repaired by CDOT (Colorado Department of Transportation). The AAOA board reports issues (such as damage) to CDOT for repair.
Background
The fence was built by CDOT in the 1980's as a safety barrier from the expansion of and increased traffic on Arapahoe Road. At that time the medical center to the south of AAOA was new to the neighborhood. According to neighbors that lived here at the time, the fence also served to mitigate the wind caused by the medical emergency helicopter landing or taking off at the medical center. Prior to the CDOT fence being built, all roads within Algonquin Acres could exit and enter directly to/from Arapahoe Road.
CDOT facts
According to CDOT's website, a frontage road fence, similar to ours, has a life span of 30 to 40 years. CDOT's policy does not allow for an upgrade to this type of fence unless significant work is done to improve or expand the highway it adjoins (such as Arapahoe Road).
