Community District Two’s area includes many neighborhoods, The Downtown Business District, Metrotech, Atlantic Center, the New York Marriott Brooklyn Hotel, and the Navy Yard which houses hundreds of small businesses. The area also includes a large number of government and private offices, city, state, and federal courts, the headquarters of the NY Fire Department and “911” central operations office. The residential area includes both public and private housing as well as seven Historic Landmark Districts. The Brooklyn Academy of Music is among the many diverse cultural institutions. The seven higher education institutions are: Pratt Institute, Polytechnic University, St. Joseph’s College, St. Francis College, Brooklyn Law School, Long Island University and New York City Technical College.
