Blendon Township Street Sweeping - How It Works For You

Blendon Township Street Sweeping schedule changes

Our tax dollars help pay for street sweeping in our community. This is an expense that benefits us four to five times a year. Cleaner streets make the whole neighborhood look more attractive. But it costs money - lots!

This year, there will be a change in the schedule that may affect the appearance of our streets - unless residents do their part in keeping streets clean.

The schedule change takes place in the fall. The fourth street sweep will occur before October 20 and not again until December, weather permitting. This is because Contract Sweeping had to charge our township extra for the large amount of leaves on the street. Lots of leaves on the street require more passes to pick them up. More passes result in higher costs to the township. This can be avoided if we all do our part in cleaning up our own leaves out of the gutter.

Our township does not provide leaf pickup and never has. We are expected to bag our leaves for trash pickup - or if you really want to help the environment, take your yard waste to Kurtz Brothers on Dempsey Road and dump it there.

Sweeping your own street gutter after mowing and raking leaves is always a good idea. It improves the appearance of the neighborhood and ultimately helps to eliminate clogged sewer drops (which are costly to clean out). Keeping debris from going down the sewer drop helps the environment and MAY PREVENT FLOODING should the sewer get clogged.

Thanks for Doing Your Part!
