Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor
Coyote or wolf in area?

I'm not quite sure how else to say this....around 1:30am I was startled awake by what sounded to be a coyote or wolf howling. My wife also heard it, and it startled our dogs awake as well.

If anyone else on the Green Meadow Ct/Green Meadow Circle area heard it, please respond back. These are native species, but if they are moving back into populated areas we may need to look into trapping and relocating it, as they will attack small children and small pets. Neighborhoods and coyotes don't mix. If it is a coyote, they are solitary animals, so it's most likely just one, unless it's a mother with a litter of pups.

Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor

I have no knowledge of this coyote.  However, a couple of years ago I looked up from the kitchen sink to see one darting down the tracks.  They have long been in this area and from time to time will make an appearance (this most recent appearance might  have something to do with the Westport Rd. Project and a removal of their habitat).

I have always been told that they are shy animals and are usually more fearful than aggresive...unless injured or hungry.  However, you are correct to warn of the dangers to pets and small children.  You might want to do a search on the courier's website (courier-journal.com).  It seems to me that the subdivision of "Houston Acres" off of Taylorsville Rd. had a coyote problem a couple of years ago...might shed some light on whom to contact.

A side note, there does seem to have been a lot of noise coming from the dogs around the neighborhood at night (Green Meadow Ct/Cr).  I don't know if this is related or not to a coyote in the area.

Thanks for the heads up.
