Thoughts On Election

In less than 72 hours, the tone of at least one of the mayoral candidates has drastically changed. Is that a good thing? Hell NO! You can't change a person's stripes, especially when he feels that he is always correct. His message/intent is still the same. But since being forced into a run-off with a lonely peasant like Jesus Garcia, he now must swallow his HUGE pride.

Rahm Emanuel is PISSED! That you can believe. He's embarrassed. He's disappointed. He is upset and he wants someone to pay for him being made the laughing stock of the world. So this soft voice and exhausted looking face he's been displaying since the days after the election, is not his real internal feelings. Yes, he has remorse that he lost, in terms of having to face Garcia, but trust me, if he wins, he will make many pay for this tight rope he has to walk for the next 30 days or so.

He doesn't think he should have to stand down to black folks. He's 'Rahm Emanuel' - The 1%. The former chief of staff to the black folks president. 'How dare you people make me come begging and pleading for your votes? You should be privileged to vote for me. I know what's best for Negroes. I've studied the manual on black people.

I'm really enjoying watching Rahm move around in the black community with other political operatives attempting to show how he's changed since the win, but really the lost. He even met with super black man Willie Wilson, trying to unlock his voters from his country hands. I bet Emanuel never thought he would have to stand side-by-side to this non-college graduate and ask for his support. And if I know Wilson, he made Rahm get on his knees - and pray. That's exactly why Willie would not let anyone on Rahm's team in the room; he didn't want Emanuel's loyalists to see their boss man getting his knees dirty. (LOL)

We'll also have to see how Garcia moves around the black hood since he is now the 'Chico the Man' - to beat. If he plays his cards right and black folks really want to relive the never say die Harold Washington days, Jesus can win in April. But the positioning of a Latino as head Negro in charge is still scary to some - black and white. He also met privately with Big Willie, and I'm sure Wilson brought him to his knees, as well. Wilson has the cards in his grip, and he's going to use this moment in time to be king maker for the next six weeks. My Man, make it work!

Now, let me comment briefly on the aldermanic races. I'm happy that so many incumbents have to work a little harder and smarter to retain their coveted seat on the 5th floor. Some of the incumbents need to be retired, though. They have failed their communities, especially on the black hand side. But I'm so excited about David Moore being the new alderman of the 17th Ward. He's a real dude, for now. David, please don't get inside the evil walls of City Hall and get hypnotized into a rubber stamp. Stay strong. Since (I) knew you before, I'll be on your butt and in your ear to ensure that you stay real, and for the people. Because they need you, badly!

I also had the chance to listen to another new alderman, Carlos Ramirez-Rosa. This young brother is the real deal. I loved everything he expressed in recent chat session with the media. The interviewer ask him, "how will you get along with Emanuel in City Council?' He replied that I will work very well with (Chuy). That's who I'm voting for. Strong statement from someone who knocked out 35th Ward Alderman Rey Colon, who had served 3-terms and was backed by Emanuel.

The next month or so will be so exciting. I'm looking forward to opening up even more as the race for City Hall heats up. Ironically, TBTNews celebrates its 5th year anniversary in April, and what a nice gift for 5 years of hustle to see a certain person on the 5fth floor. Someone I can be proud to call (MY) MAYOR, finally! Peace and One Love.
