Updates and Coronavirus Response

Updated April 1, 2020

Costco is firmly committed to helping protect the health and safety of our members and employees, and to serving our communities. We are closely monitoring the changing situation, and complying with Public Health guidance.

Updated Guest Shopping Policy

  • Effective Friday, April 3, Costco will allow no more than two people to enter the warehouse with each membership card. This temporary change is for your safety and the safety of our employees and other members, and to further assist with our social distancing efforts. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Hours of Operation

  • Costco Warehouses: Costco locations have temporarily implemented new weekday closing hours. For specific hours, find a Costco warehouse near you.
    • U.S. Costco warehouses will close at 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
    • U.S. Costco gas stations will open at 7:30 a.m. daily, and close at 7 p.m. on weekdays and 6:30 p.m. on weekends.
    • Puerto Rico warehouses will close at 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; the Carolina gas station will close at 6:30 p.m. Warehouses will be closed Friday, April 10, as well as Sundays through April 12, 2020.
  • Costco Business Centers: Costco Business Centers will continue to operate with normal hours. Find a Costco Business Center near you.

Special Operating Hours for Members Ages 60 or Older

  • Until further notice, Costco warehouses will open from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday for members ages 60 and older, and for those with physical impairments. The pharmacy will be open, but the Costco Food Court will be closed during these hours. Find a Costco warehouse near you.

Product Limitations

  • Costco has implemented limits on certain items to help ensure more members are able to purchase merchandise they want and need. Our buyers and suppliers are working hard to provide essential, high demand merchandise as well as everyday favorites.

Return Restrictions

  • Costco is not accepting returns on specific items, including:
    • Toilet paper
    • Bottled water
    • Sanitizing wipes
    • Paper towels
    • Rice
    • Disinfecting spray

Temporary Department Changes

  • To help limit personal contact and create more space for social distancing, Costco has reduced service in some departments. At some locations, there will be limited or no service at the Hearing Aid department, Costco Optical, the floral department and the jewelry department. Limitations vary by location. Costco members may continue to shop for some of these items at Costco.com.

Costco Travel Information

Costco Food Courts

  • A limited menu is available at Costco Food Courts. Orders are only available for takeout — seating is not available. Please ask Costco Food Court employees for available condiments.

Social Distancing

  • Costco is following CDC recommendations to minimize risk to our members and our employees. We respectfully ask our members to use social distancing guidelines while shopping in our warehouses by allowing at least 6 feet of space between each person.

Dear Costco Member,

As the global effect of coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, Costco is firmly committed to the health and safety of our members and employees, and serving our communities. We are closely monitoring the changing situation, and complying with public health guidance.

As many of you have noticed, we’ve experienced a surge of business during this time. As a result, we’ve taken steps to control the number of members in our warehouses and asked that members and employees practice social distancing. We’ve also reduced some services.

We’ve increased our protocols in sanitizing surfaces, including shopping cart handles, merchandise shelves, front-end belts and registers. Limits have been implemented on certain items to help ensure more members are able to access the merchandise they want and need. Our buyers and suppliers are working to ensure in-demand merchandise as well as everyday favorites are available in our warehouses.

As new information becomes available, management is keeping warehouse staff well informed so they can respond swiftly and appropriately. While the circumstances continue to change and we modify our operations as necessary, we thank you for your patience and cooperation. As new developments occur, be assured we are committed to taking care of our members and employees and to our mission of providing low prices, quality merchandise and exceptional service.

We extend our sincere thanks to Costco members and employees worldwide for their ongoing support and loyal dedication during this challenging time.

Thank you,
Craig Jelinek
President and CEO, Costco Wholesale
