It was revealed at the monthly crime stat meeting on thursday that the Third District happens to have the highest incidents of violent crimes, city-wide. All the more reason to be careful and protect ourselves and our homes.
There has been a rash of garage break-ins in the Concordia, Westside and Merrill Park Neighborhoods right up the hill from us. With the economy going in the toilet right now, and with the colder weather around the corner, it is more important than ever before that we take inventory of our vulnerabilities. It seems grates over windows and window air conditioners aren't impenetrable against the thieves out there. Anchor down your snow blowers, yard equipment, possibly storing your lawn equipment in your basement but drain gas and oil first for safety. Same for bikes and recreational equipment. Make sure your garage and home locksets are secure.
Let's make these types of thefts more difficult or impossible to achieve so that the creeps go elsewhere to do their dastardly deeds. Winter is coming and most of us (except the miscreants) spend more time inside and we don't take notice of our outdoors as much as in the nicer times of the year.
The same is true with our cars where would-be thugs walk by and see all kinds of trinkets and valuables left in a car because the car serves as a goldfish bowl to the outsider.
PLESE BE AWARE !
