But still, if North Carolina voters who requested absentee are not comfortable with taking the risk or can't vote in person on Election Day, they can deliver it in person. If delivering it in person, the voter or the voter's near relative can return it to the county board of elections. Likewise, the voter can deliver it in person to an early voting site during the early voting period.
Not sure if this is new or not for voters being allowed to turn in absentee ballot at an early voting site! I was a chief judge for years and on election day this just didn't happen. We were trained to not take them on election day. This does state early voting. Seems like just another rule that will cause confusion.
I know for a fact that you could not return them to the precinct you are assigned to vote on election day. The rules has always been we could not accept the absentee ballot at the voting site on election day. The voters had the option of mail ling with a post mark, or taking it to the board of elections. There other option was to destroy that absentee ballot and vote in person on election day. Now I have to wonder why that would not be the case at an early voting site. They offer curb side voting and of course inside voting at early voting sites. If you can go inside to turn in a absentee ballot should not be able to just vote at the early site? That is the SHADY PART!
