The Case for Great Neighborhood Spaces
June 28 - 6:00pm-8:00pm CPCC - Halton Theater (1206 Elizabeth Avenue)
Did you know that by including positive signage people are 10 percent more likely to believe that their neighborhood is valued? Join the Building Community CLT Speaker Series as we welcome Joanna Frank, President & CEO of the Center for Active Design (CfAD).
The event will feature CfAD's debut of the publication Assembly: Civic Design Guidelines, a landmark resource demonstrating that well-designed and well-maintained public spaces can be a force for the civic well-being of our communities. The Assembly Guidelines capture the culmination of four years of research and collaboration—with input from 200+ studies, 50+ cities including Charlotte, and dozens of expert advisers—to provide a checklist for action to design public spaces that support civic life. Attendees will learn how this research can be leveraged to create and enhance great spaces throughout Charlotte including in our very own neighborhoods.
The presentation will Include a discussion moderated by Charles Thomas, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and panelists from Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation, the City of Charlotte and the Charlotte League of Creative Interventionists. Participants will learn about current placemaking initiatives and how organizations and individuals can play a part.
The Assembly Guidelines and the Building Community CLT Speaker Series are both generously supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
