America Recycles Day: Recycling During Covid-19: Impacts and Solutions - November 15, 6 p.m.

In honor of America Recycles Day, Keep Charlotte Beautiful will host a two-hour virtual panel discussion on the topic “Recycling During Covid-19: Impacts and Solutions.” Guest speakers representing City, County, and nonprofit recycling initiatives will discuss the impact the pandemic had on the local recycling system, how they met challenges, and what the future of recycling looks like in Charlotte.

Keep Charlotte Beautiful Accepting Grant Letters of Intent through November 17

Have an idea for a beautification project in your community? Keep Charlotte Beautiful (KCB) wants to hear about it! The program is currently accepting Letters of Intent for up to $5000 to go towards neighborhood and community projects that fall within its main tenets: litter prevention, waste reduction, community greening, and beautification. The grant is open to organizations citywide.

CharMeck 311 is the customer contact center that provides information on City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County services. CharMeck 311 can assist with water service problems and billing questions, reporting code violations or requests for non-emergency police services and much more. Join us to learn about the many ways CharMeck 311 supports Spanish-speaking residents.

Mentor 102: Check and Connect - November 18, 12 p.m.

Please join the Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance (MMA) Advisory Board as they host "Mentor 102: Check and Connect" on Thursday, November 18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom. By participating in this training, you will gain the following takeaways:

• Articulate a clear understanding of trauma and its impact on behavior
• Apply key facets of trauma-informed care and open, self-aware, reflective practice to your work with youth and families
• Identify strategies for incorporating principles of trauma informed care into your mentoring service delivery

Our next Neighborhood Board Retreat will be in Spring 2022. The purpose of the Neighborhood Board Retreat is to help neighborhood and business associations assess the current state of their community, identify and prioritize strategic goals, create action plans and improve quality of life in Charlotte’s neighborhoods. Capacity for the retreat is limited, neighborhoods will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to first-time attendees. Helping Out Mecklenburg Homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) - Deadline extended to November 19

The Mecklenburg County HOMES program is currently accepting applications for property tax assistance. Whether your home is fully paid off or you currently have a mortgage, a HOMES grant of up to $340 can help you breathe a little easier. New applicants and previous recipients are encouraged to complete and submit the easy, one-page application by November 19.

Who is eligible for the HOMES program?

Mecklenburg County homeowners who have:

• Lived in their home for the last three years
• A qualifying total household income level
• No more than one delinquent tax bill in the last three years

There is no age requirement and your house does not need to be paid off. See www.mecknc,gov/4homes for a full list of eligibility requirements. Applications can be obtained online.
