San Tomas Neighborhood Association

What is the STNA?

We are an association of long standing, established in 1993 to work with the City of Campbell to ensure the character and benefits of the San Tomas Neighborhood would be preserved. To this end, with the cooperation of the City we were able to establish the San Tomas Area Neighborhood Plan, an extension of the General Plan with specific rules which apply only to the San Tomas Neighborhood.
Over the last 9 years we have held meetings, and published a newsletter. During the last 2 years we have established strong ties to the United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County , a non-profit group which provides classes and support to Neighborhood Associations. Our meetings are scheduled 4 times annually, with additional special meetings taking place when the community has a need for them. For example, if the crime rate were to unexpectedly rise, we might call a special meeting and have someone from the Police come and talk about Neighborhood watch.

Purpose

This organization's purposes are to:
• Enhance the quality of life for residents within the boundaries of the San Tomas Area.
• Serve as a means of communication between members and city, local or state governmental bodies on issues that affect their interest as owners or residents.
• Promote neighborly good fellowship among the residents of San Tomas Area.
• Promote and defend the San Tomas Area Policy.

Mission Statement

Clarification of the purpose of the San Tomas Neighborhood Association.

The STNA exists as an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents living within the boundaries of the San Tomas area. STNA is a non-profit organization run exclusively by volunteers who live in the San Tomas area.

The purpose of the STNA is to promote good fellowship among the residents of the San Tomas area as well as keep residents informed of issues and changes that will have an affect on them.

The STNA serves as a means of communication between the residents of the San Tomas area and City, local or state governmental bodies. To this end the board includes two members who serve as the eyes and ears of the STNA at both City council and planning commission meetings. In speaking to city officials, the position of the representatives is limited to speaking out against development projects that do not comply with the San Tomas Policy. Under no circumstances should a representative give the impression they are speaking for residents of the entire area.

Representatives may voice their own opinion on any issue but must make it clear to the city officials that they are not speaking as a representative of STNA but as a concerned neighbor.

In all cases, the STNA will attempt to inform and educate residents by conducting meetings, surveys, and distribution of informational flyers. In cases of controversy, the policy of the STNA Board is NOT to take sides against one neighbor or another, but to ensure that both sides are kept abreast of public hearings and have as much information as possible and to facilitate communication between opposing sides as well as the city officials whenever possible.

Our overriding goal is to help residents take care of our neighborhood by taking part.

Volunteering

Block Captains: These are the footsoldiers of the STNA. Each Block Captain delivers newsletters to one or more blocks. In cases of emergency, Block Captains get the word out to their areas.

Area Captains: The Area Captains serve as liaison between the Board, Block Captains and residents of their area. They recruit Block Captains, coordinate the distribution of the newsletter through the Block Captains, inform the Hospitality Chair of new residents in their area, and in cases of emergency, coordinate getting information out to residents of the area via Block Captains.

We are actively recruiting Block Captains and Area Captains to deliver newsletters.

Volunteering: Increase your exercise and get to know your neighbors by becoming an STNA volunteer! If you are interested in volunteering with the STNA, please contact Analise Wrightson at 408-378-1735.
