Upcoming Events and Engagement Opportunities

Disability Awareness Workshop | Tuesday, May 10, 6 p.m.

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce and explore important information about people with disabilities. We will discuss the different ways that individuals with disabilities communicate, move about, tolerate changes and interactions, and view the world around them. This workshop aims to dispel common misconceptions about people with disabilities and increase participant awareness of how we can work together to create a more inclusive community for all.

This workshop is being brought to you in partnership with Disability Rights & Resources, a non-profit agency known as a Center for Independent Living serving Cabarrus, Gaston, Mecklenburg, and Union county.

This workshop will take place via Zoom. Registration is required. Online and call-in access instructions will be emailed to registered participants prior to the workshop.

Attend an In-person or Virtual Pre-Application Workshop to Learn How Your Neighborhood Can Receive up to $25k!

Hundreds of Charlotte’s neighborhood organizations have received funding through the Neighborhood Matching Grants Program (NMG). Yours could be next!

The NMG program awards up to $25,000 to eligible neighborhood-based organizations to complete projects including art, beautification, signage, festivals, sustainability, safety improvements, community gardens, recreational features and more! Applications are accepted March 1, June 1, and September 1, annually. Organizations match funds received with at least 50% volunteer engagement activities, the remaining match may be in the form of more volunteer activities, cash, or in-kind donations (equipment, supplies, professional services, etc.). Participation in a pre-application workshop is required.

To get started, attend one of the following workshops or view the workshop presentation and program guidelines online at www.charlottenc.gov/nmg.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation FY 24 - 24 Capital Improvement Plan

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is kicking off the community engagement process for the FY 2024 to 2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This five-year program will fund major renovations and construction projects for all types of our park and recreation facilities. The funds in the CIP are for construction and associated information technology, and do not include operating expenses or programming after the completion of the project. The projects included within the next CIP will be influenced by recommendations from Meck Playbook, our recently endorsed park and recreation master plan, and additional input we receive from County residents. Park and Recreation projects to be funded may include:

  • Reinvestment in existing parks, nature preserves, recreation centers, and greenway trails
  • Investment in new parks, nature preserves, recreation centers, and greenway trails
  • New amenities across several park sites
  • Improved access to existing parks, nature preserves, recreation centers, and greenway trails

Please visit www.PublicInput.com/24CIP for more information and to provide input for the FY 2024-2028 CIP today. Please share this link with your contacts so we can hear from as many County residents as possible.
