From your MNA Board
At our 4/7/2009 Montclaire board meeting the topics of speeding and cut thought traffic in the neighborhood were brought up.
There has been an increase in cut through traffic to Tyvola and South Boulevard and from that area to Archdale. A major concern is an increase in speeding and running stop signs (resulting in several accidents). These activities are going on in Madison Park as well.
We are interested in taking a proactive approach by discussing the addition of all-way stops at specific streets that would slow drivers down and reduce cut through. We would like to start a dialogue now in anticipation of the Park South Station complex being fully occupied in a few years. It will have approximately 850 units when completed. They have about 200 units built at present. This does and will continue to have a direct impact on our neighborhood street use.
We plan to partner with Madison Park with regards to shared streets like Farmbrook as speeding there has been an issue for some time . We have been in communication with their Board. A joint effort between our neighborhoods for "common" streets should help bolster our positions and numbers. Remember, both of our neighborhoods use each other's streets.
What follows is a list of intersections we felt could benefit from all-way stop signs in the future. Several of these intersections have a 2-way stop now. We would like feedback from our residents as to their thoughts on the matter and encourage you to get in touch with us. Please remember, these are initial suggestions. Please contact Nancy Mosier Dehart at nmdehart@carolina.rr.com or reply here on the Discussion Board.
Montclaire Intersections being considered:
Farmbrook & Chedworth
Farmbrook & Wensley
Farmbrook & Tamworth (School)
Farmbrook & Emerywood (School)
Wensley & Boxwood
Wensley & Rose Valley
Brookhaven at Stonewood
Rose Valley at Collingdale
Chedworth at Wedgewood
Montpelier at Archdale - a future stop light
Madison Park is evaluating these Intersections:
Farmbrook & Chedworth
Farmbrook & Valley Forge
Farmbrook & Fairbanks
Wedgewood & Valley Forge
Wedgewood & Murrayhill
Stanfield & Seacroft
Please note this is a preliminary study. There are many rules and regulations regarding the placement of stop signs (as well as lights and speed bumps) that will have to be considered.
This was discussed in more detail at our General Meeting on Monday May 18th.
To proceed we will need the Associations backing. It will be addressed again at our next meeting onMonday June 22nd. We hope you will attend.
Remember, at a stop sign, all wheels should come to a halt. Please Do it. School is out now and kids will be playing outside, riding their bikes and walking pets. Please be vigilant ...stop at stop signs and just slow down...........someone really could get killed.
Thank you for your support and continued interest in your neighborhood
