My mail box has been victim to vandalism twice in the last 3 weeks, Friday night it was completely destroyed. I notice that 90% of the mailboxes in the neighborhood have signs of curent or former vandalism. We need to keep an eye out and catch the perpetrators. I had security and the police come and take a report and they suggested we stay up and try to see who is doing this. If we do catch them they will be subject to Federal prosecurion - if they only knew the penalties:
According to the U.S. Post Office website, damaging a mailbox is also a federal crime since mailboxes are federal property. That means the penalty goes up to $250,000 or up to three years in prison for each act.
