Keeling Neighborhood

I recently had some communication with Mr. Anderson's office concerning the large number of slumlords in Keeling Neighborhood and Balboa as well. The reply was that a large number of letters had been sent to property owners about what is required from them under city code. Also, several weeks ago one of the worst properties off Grant Road made the front page of the Daily Star. In our own neighborhood we must not tolerate those who take advantage of people who are desparate for housing. This type of behavior has gone on too long in our area, and we should fight back against being the part of town where it is OK to rent out firetrap trailers and unsafe housing. One of my points I made in past association meetings is that neighborhood pressure be exercised on slum lords and that there be some accountability. For those that rent out housing to drug dealers and prostitutes which damage the neighborhood and make streets unsafe, (and yes, there are plenty of them), some major legal accountability must be enforced. This is a topic I want to pursue with the City this coming year. While my viewpoints are strong, the problems we are up against are very serious. Like other neighborhoods in Tucson, we have a right to reasonable safety of ourselves and our property.

Yuck on Slum lords!

This past summer I conducted an experiment. I wanted to see who else in my neighborhood would call in graffiti, junk cars, trash cans, piles of furniture, etc.
From May first on, a few folks did, and I am proud of them. But not only did allot of you not bother because of what ever.

Some of you even acted like mine was the only phone number you could remember!

Well I have been talking to those that did call the various complaints, and we decided to form a committee do deal with:

1. Furniture, mattresses, and any other piles of trash that do not fit in the garbage bins. And getting after the properties that constant do this!
2. Garbage bins that are not big enough for the people they are meant to serve.
3. Garbage bins that live on the street and block traffic, and obscure the sidewalk, not to mention the appearance of the neighborhood.
4. Graffiti,
5. Junk cars or
6. parking on the sidewalk/easement, (yes this is illegal)
7. Dogs!!! The ones that bark allot, live in filth yards, and run free! (Did you know that filing a complaint keeps you anonymous!)

Do know what I am talking about?
We want to stop spinning our wheels individually, form up a committee and get the city to actually do something to help us solve these problems. Add your name and email to get involved.
