On the 2018 general election ballot, City of Charlotte voters have the opportunity to approve a $223 million bond referenda package that will fund construction and revitalization of transportation corridors including streets and sidewalks, affordable housing, and improvements to neighborhoods in established and emerging high-growth areas.

Voters will find the bonds at the end of the ballot in the referenda section following the six constitutional amendments.

Project Spotlight: Sunset/Beatties Ford Neighborhood Improvements

On this year's ballot, $55 million will go to fund capital projects and address immediate infrastructure needs in our city's older neighborhoods and emerging high-growth areas. Below is an example of a recent project made possible with support from the Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program (CNIP).

The Sunset/Beatties Ford CNIP area includes several established communities in a high-growth area of north and northwest Charlotte. It was chosen due to the opportunities for development, redevelopment and leveraging existing assets within the community. These projects seeks to create impactful change in the community to help people better access jobs, transportation and recreation. While nearly 20 percent of the Sunset/Beatties Ford CNIP area is park/greenspace, safe access to the existing parks is very limited. This project's goal is to enhance pedestrian and bicycle connections along Sunset Road and Beatties Ford Road and make improvements to the intersection at the entrance of the park. This will give residents in adjacent neighborhoods, as well as students and staff at Hornet's Nest Elementary School, better access by bike or foot to the park and retail at the intersection of Sunset and Beatties Ford roads.
For more information about this project, please visit the CNIP website. And for more information about other projects included in the neighborhood improvement bond, please visit Vote Yes for Bonds website.
