Lawn Care and Watering
I've started this discussion in hopes we can help each other out with our lawns here in Bella Vista. If you drive around there are a lawns with varying degrees of success in care or lack thereof. With watering restrictions we know that it is hard to find the time to hand water. But, maybe you have some tips or shortcuts to share in order some of us might have greener and healthier lawns.
Here are a few tips I know of.
Mow your yard with a thatching mower.
Keep the blade height at least 3 1/2 inches. Keep the blade sharp. I use a file and take the blade off at least every other mowing and give the blade a sharp new edge. A sharp blade will help ease the strain on your mower's engine and you will notice a nice clean cut instead of a raggedy cut on the grass blades.
I try to fertilize every nine weeks or so. Some say Scott's is the best but I'm not sure what is.
Now it's your turn. Do you hand water? Or, do you have a sprinkler system and if so, how long does an average zone run? What's your routine?

Watering times, zones

Here's an idea, for what it's worth. Would you be interested in knowing the optimum watering for you zonez? Would you like to know what others are paying for their water each month? I'd like to do some comparisons. If you post your water bill and the gallons you use each month along with the number of zones in your sprinkler system and how long each run, I'll do the same. I'm going to try to be the first one to do this and we'll see how it goes from here. You don't have to give your address or any personal information. I'd like to know what the optimum watering for each zone should be for our grass to grow well and be green and stay healthy. Also, why not post the fertizlier you use or should we start another disussion toward that? Pesticides? Lots to talk about here. The growing season will be upon us soon enough. Let's get cracking!
