Neighborhood BOOST Grant Opportunity
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, neighborhoods have faced unprecedented challenges. As many neighborhoods begin to meet again and/or reorganize, the City of Charlotte will assist these efforts through its BOOST grant. The BOOST grant offers neighborhood organizations located within the City of Charlotte up to $750 reimbursement for expenses associated with neighborhood organizing, reorganizing capacity and community building, branding and/or community events. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to yard signs & banners, strategic planning, diversity & inclusion efforts, creation of bylaws/governing documents and support for National Night Out and other community events.
Neighborhood groups do not have to be in the Neighborhood Matching Grant (NMG) eligible geography to apply, however, they must meet (or be working towards) the organization definitions outlined in the NMG program guidelines. The Boost Grant will be open through December 1, 2022, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

Register Your National Night Out Events by July 22
National Night Out (NNO) is America’s Night Out Against Crime. This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
National Night Out 2022 will be observed on Tuesday, August 2. CMPD strives to have officer participation at each registered event. If your neighborhood or organization is hosting a NNO event, please complete this brief questionnaire to tell us of your plans by July 22.

Applications are now open for the upcoming Neighborhood Board Retreat - Apply by August 1
Are you a newly formed neighborhood organization? Has your organization recently undergone leadership changes? Is your neighborhood in need of improvements such as additional street signage or lights? If so, consider applying for the Neighborhood Board Retreat.
The Neighborhood Board Retreat helps neighborhood and business associations assess the current state of their community, identify and prioritize strategic goals, create action plans and improve the quality of life in Charlotte’s neighborhoods. The retreat is an opportunity for you to connect with your neighbors and work together to bring about positive change in your community. Additionally, eligible neighborhoods have the opportunity to receive a credit of up to $1500 toward volunteer hours required for the Neighborhood Matching Grant.
The retreat will be on August 20 at Central Piedmont Community College-Central Campus located at 1206 Elizabeth Ave. from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You must have at least five participants from your neighborhood or business association register for your neighborhood to be considered. The application is available online and will only take a few minutes.
Capacity for the retreat is limited. Neighborhoods will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to first-time attendees. The deadline to apply is August 1.

Property Revaluation Workshop: What Does it Mean for Me? | Thursday, July 21, 6 to 7:00 p.m.
The City of Charlotte’s Community Engagement team is hosting a workshop in collaboration with Mecklenburg County to increase awareness of the 2023 property revaluation. North Carolina state law requires all counties to conduct a property revaluation at least every eight years. Mecklenburg County is currently conducting a property revaluation that will affect property taxes beginning January 1, 2023. Join us to learn from the County Assessor’s Office about the property revaluation process, possible impacts on property taxes, and how to appeal your 2023 assessed value if needed.

Mecklenburg County 2023 Property Revaluation
Mecklenburg County conducts a property revaluation every four years so assessments stay closer to the market, there’s less chance of large market increases, and the public remains educated on the process. Revaluation is the process where all property (land and buildings) within Mecklenburg County is revalued to its current market value as of an established date, in this case January 1, 2023.
Property taxes are based on the market value of your property. Without periodic revaluation, some property owners would pay more than their share of property tax while others would pay less than their share. Revaluation resets property tax values so all taxpayers pay their fair share.
2023 Property Revaluation Important Dates
- January 1, 2023: Countywide Revaluation Effective Date
- January 23, 2023: Notice of January 2023 Real Estate Assessed Value Mailed
- July 2023: Tax Bill Mailing

UDO Project Next Steps
On Monday, July 11th, Charlotte community members had the opportunity to share their thoughts with City Council at the UDO Public Hearing. Next steps for the UDO include:
- July 19 - Planning Committee recommendation meeting
- August 15 - UDO Adoption draft release
- August 22 - City Council vote on proposed UDO
The UDO second draft was released on June 3, 2022, and was open for public comment through June 30. Staff has identified and is recommending changes based on feedback received via the public comment portal and through the City Council Public Hearing.
These recommended changes are now available in advance of the July 19 meeting of the Planning Committee of the Planning Commission who will discuss and make recommendations for the City Council on the UDO. View recommended changes here.
