Mayor's Youth Employment Program Seeking Host Employers

In 2014 Charlotte was ranked 50th in economic mobility nationally.  Since then, the City of Charlotte has been dedicated to improving opportunities for our community. The Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP) is committed to providing all Charlotte youth with equitable career development opportunities to explore the world of work, build social capital, and enhance economic mobility. We ask for your support in this recovery effort, as we work to increase economic mobility for our youth.

MYEP supports high school youth who are ready to work and gain life-changing experience alongside you. Youth work a minimum of 25 hours per week at a rate of $10/hour for a total of $1,500 during the program. Participant(s) are matched with your organization based on interest, skills, location and more!

Are you able to provide a work experience?  Youth from around Charlotte have applied to the MYEP and are excited to stand alongside area leaders such as yourself.

Contact us for ideas at myep@charlottenc.gov or to become a host employer. Together we can lift up our community.

Applications are now open for the Spring 2022 Neighborhood Board Retreat - Apply by January 24

Are you a newly formed neighborhood organization? Has your organization recently undergone leadership changes? Is your neighborhood in need of improvements such as additional street signage or lights? If so, consider applying for the Neighborhood Board Retreat.

The Neighborhood Board Retreat helps neighborhood and business associations assess the current state of their community, identify and prioritize strategic goals, create action plans and improve quality of life in Charlotte’s neighborhoods. The retreat is an opportunity for you to connect with your neighbors and work together to bring about positive change in your community. Additionally, eligible neighborhoods have the opportunity to receive a $1500 Neighborhood Matching Grant credit.

Retreats will be held virtually. Each neighborhood will receive a customized, interactive workshop delivered via Zoom. You must have at least five (5) participants from your neighborhood or business association register for your neighborhood to be considered. In addition to current board members, participating organizations are encouraged to invite neighbors, business owners and nonprofit partners that may help you achieve your goals. Each participant should complete a separate application. The application is available online and will only take a few minutes.

Capacity for the retreat is limited and neighborhoods will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to first-time attendees. The deadline to apply is January 24, 2022. Individual neighborhood retreats will begin late February at a date and time agreed upon by the group.

Visit our website to learn more about the Neighborhood Board Retreat. You can also view past neighborhood summaries to learn what other Charlotte neighborhoods have identified as priorities for their communities.

If you have questions regarding the retreat, please contact Nichelle Wilson at nichelle.wilson@charlottenc.gov.

Attend a Neighborhood Matching Grant Pre-Application Workshop to learn how your neighborhood can receive up to $25k!

The Neighborhood Matching Grants Program (NMG) awards up to $25,000 to eligible neighborhood-based organizations to complete projects including art, beautification, signage, festivals, sustainability, safety improvements, community gardens, recreational features and more! Applications are accepted March 1, June 1, and September 1, annually. Organizations match funds received with at least 50% volunteer labor, the remaining match may be in the form of more volunteer labor, cash, or in-kind donations (equipment, supplies, professional services, etc.).
