All homes in our neighborhood, townhome or single-family house, have vinyl siding on the exterior. Vinyl
siding is a long-lasting and low maintenance exterior product; however, from time to time, vinyl siding needs cleaning. The HOA is taking care of cleaning the townhome siding, but for single family homes who may need to clean their own, here are some tips to keep your siding looking its best.
1. Wash vinyl siding with a soft cloth, or long-handled, soft bristle brush using diluted general cleaners.
2. If using hoses or other power washing devices, hold the device straight and parallel to the ground. The water pressure should be low at all times, and most importantly, do not aim water upward. Spraying siding in an upward motion may cause water to collect behind the siding and later cause the structure underneath to mold, mildew, or even decay.
3. To prevent streaking from cleaning solutions and water running down the siding, begin at the bottom and work up. Rinse cleaning solutions from the siding with water before they dry.
4. Do not use cleaners containing organic solvents, undiluted chlorine bleach, liquid grease remover, nail polish remover, or furniture polish or cleaners.
